The best stuff always comes to us from our readers, and so this week we're emptying out our inbox. Check out this invite to a BBQ on the roof in 1982, sent to us by Michael Fellows. The no doubt swinging soire was hosted by none other than Jobriath. Jobriath, who as all good Chelseaites know, was the world’s first openly gay rock star. Back in the 1970s, he released two albums – Jobriath and Creatures of the Street and the glam rocker rocketed to success. In 2004, Michael hosted a party at Serena's-- the club in the basement of the hotel --to celebrate the release of Lonely Planet Boy, a CD compilation of Jobriath’s songs. Jobriath's music was only available on vinyl until 2004. If you were fortunate enough to attend the rooftop BBQ drop us a line. We'd love to hear more. Jobriath, tragically died of AIDS. Photo: Jerry Brandt (Jobriath’s manager) and Michael Fellows at Serenas. The video of Jobriath is from Nigel Finch's BBC documentary about the Chelsea Hotel.
