There’s a review of the Chelsea on the tripadvisor site that really takes us to task. “Chelsea Hotel: Old & Crappy” the review is called. The reviewer talks about the old furniture and speculates that Stanley's purpose in retaining it is to give the place “the feel of when the stars stayed here.” I have news for you bucko, the stars are still here! The first time my girlfriend and I stayed here was back in the mid-eighties. The drawers in the chest were moldy and had holes rotted through them. Nobody in their right mind would have stored clothes there. We must not have minded too much, we came back. I don't think the tourist minded it too much either, they indicated that they would most likely recommend this hotel to their best friend.
The tourist mentions that the Chelsea feels "errie." Yeah, that's the famous Chelsea energy, chief. I never have thought of it quite that way myself, but everybody experience it differently, of course, and now that he says that, it makes sense. The owner, he says, seemed cool. I can see that too, I suppose.
