Earlier this week Page Six reported that the Accompanied Library stopped by the Chelsea looking for a new home, but decided against relocating here. Too bad. We could use a library in the building. Their noisy parties got them evicted from the National Arts Club. (Photo: fashiontribes.com) More photos on flickr.
THE Accompanied Library - the young-fogey private book club housed inside the National Arts Club - is getting unceremoniously evicted from its Gramercy Park digs. The 250-odd members, who were just featured in the PAGE SIX magazine, must pack their books and be out March 1. Live-in residents of the National Arts Club complained about noise from the weekly parties - most vocally Tim Nye, the millionaire entrepreneur whose apartment shares the sixth floor with the Library and who sublets the space to the group. He has decided not to renew its lease. Neither Nye nor his lawyer could be reached. "The Library has outgrown its space," Alexander Jutkowitz, a Library spokesman, tells PAGE SIX. "But Tim Nye, initially a supporter, is no longer one. As it succeeded more and more, he became less and less a supporter. In the short term, we’ll move to different venues," he says. The Library recently scouted the Chelsea Hotel as a potential permanent residence, but decided against it. (Source: The New York Post)
