“Lolita at Fifty,” writers intimately familiar with Nabokov’s masterpiece—Azar Nafisi (Reading Lolita in Teheran), Alfred Appel (The Annotated Lolita), and Stacy Schiff (Véra, the biography of Nabokov’s wife)—discuss the famous work created by former Chelsea Hotel resident, Nabokov. Lolita's publisher, Maurice Girodias, also lived at the Chelsea.

Sadly, on Sept. 22nd, 1968, Charles Jackson, at the age of 65, took an overdose of sleeping pills in the Chelsea Hotel. In addition to the bestselling "The Lost Weekend," Jackson's works include: The Fall of Valor – (1945) – This story of a failing marriage deals with the issue of homosexuality; The Outer Edges – (1948) – A brutal and senseless murder is committed by a mentally deficient man; Earthly Creatures -- (1953) Short story collection;“The Sunnier Side” – (1959) Short story collection; A Second Hand Life – (1967) – Recounts the life of a sexually obsessed woman.
