Andrew Baron of Rocketboom shared some news with about 600 of his closest friends at the NY Video 2.0 July Meet-up tonight. While he wouldn't be specific, he said he just signed a big distribution deal and would announce the details by September 8th. When moderator Yaron Samid asked if Rocketboom was profitable, Baron would only say, "We're a start-up so all of our money goes back into the business. But we have a full staff and everyone makes a good salary." Sounds profitable for some people.
There was a lot talk about what platform was the best--and nearly everyone on the panel said YouTube. They were even the best at monetizing--or 'cashification' as they like to say.
Also--nobody knows what to call internet TV. Nearly everyone agreed they would like to call it something else--maybe internet video--because TV generally conjures up an image of one thing and it's not what you get when you watch The Burg or ill Doctrine. Which is a good thing. There's also the possibility that it could end up being regulated like TV if you call it that. And nobody wants that--the recent wardrobe malfunction ruling notwithstanding.--Sherry Mazzocchi
