Jeremiah's Vanishing New York reports that the entire block of small businesses, including a barber shop and a liquor store, located on 9th Avenue between 17th and 18th Street are in danger of being wiped out. They will be replaced by businesses that will "reflect the trendy neighborhood." This block is across the street from the Fulton Houses. We've often wondered how much longer this pocket of low-income housing would be allowed to remain in the neighborhood. (PHoto: JVNY)

I don't like seeing small businesses being displaced. They are an important part of the foundation of the neighborhood. However I have no problem with demolishing the failed 1960s concept of low income superblocks. I can't wait for the Fulton Houses to be completely razed.
